This scheme by Markland Klaschka with landscape architect Whitelaw Turkington is one of three proposals for the limited competition to design enhancements to Higginson Park, Marlow. The project is currently undergoing a period of public consultation and ratification with a final result expected in early June 2005.
The proposal aims to create a simple, sensitive yet exciting solution to enhancing the park. A pavilion is set on a grand sweep pointing the way to the river and countryside beyond. The building envelopes a new playground - a colourful world of play where children can run up the roof as it rises from the ground. The pavilion locates the new facilities at the focal point of the east end of the park. It brings together the refreshments and toilets as well as providing a new display area and bandstand. The design for the wider park retains and extends the best existing features like the boundary railings and also introduces new elements such as paths and planting beds.
